Virtual Systems Manager

Have your own information systems manager -- but only when you need one

All organizations rely on information systems. Every one of them needs to manage their systems and associated investments wisely. Large organizations hire a systems manager and other specialised staff to look after these issues. Small organizations have the same needs -- but do not have the resources to hire full-time specialists.

The Role of the Information Systems Manager

The Information Systems Manager (Systems Director, Chief Information Officer, etc.) plays a key role in any organization. This person is responsible for:

  • advising senior managers on issues related to the management of information and information technology

  • preparing a strategic information technology plan

  • documenting systems requirements

  • advising the organization on the selection of information technology and systems

  • liaising with technology vendors

  • managing technology projects

  • overseeing the operation of the organization's computer systems

  • managing systems support staff (whether employees or contractors)

The Virtual I.S. Manager

All organizations need these activities to be performed. However, small organizations are in a bind. Typically they do not have appropriately knowledgeable staff to tackle the job well; and they cannot justify hiring a full-time person to fill the role.

A very effective way to deal with this conundrum is to engage a seasoned person to provide these services on an as-required basis. The Virtual I.S. Manager is not a staff member but acts as the I.S. Manager for the organization when asked.

A reasonable analogy is a corporate lawyer. Small organizations cannot justify having a staff lawyer. But when there are legal matters to address, the organization's external lawyer is called in to provide advice and to represent the organization on certain issues.

This is the way in which the Virtual Manager of Information Systems operates. Talk with us about how your organization can take advantage of this service. We act as your Manager of Information Systems when the need arises.
