London Stock Exchange dumps Windows for Linux
A failure of an hour on a stock exchange system can result in billions of dollars in lost trades. The failure of the .NET/Windows Server system a year ago brought this message home to the London Stock Exchange. Now they are switching to a more reliable and faster Linux based system.
The Windows-based stock trading system used at the LSE was the root cause of perennially poor performance and a critical failure in September 2008. The London Stock Exchange is about to finalize a deal that will put a Linux-based solution in place. "When performance and stability matters, as they do in business, Linux is the positive choice. This move will be good both for the LSE and its customers and to the wider family of Linux."
